Top 10 Things to Pack for a Day Skiing or Snowboarding at Ben Lomond National Park

Love skiing or snowboarding? Ben Lomond Alpine Resort has you covered. It offers a variety of terrain for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, as well as stunning views of the surrounding mountains. It’s also the only commercial ski resort in Tasmania!

If you’re planning a day of skiing or snowboarding at Ben Lomond National Park, there are a few things you’ll need to bring with you. Here are the top 10 things to check you’ve packed:

  1. Ski or snowboard gear
The essentials! Have you got your helmet, boots, skis, poles, snowboard?

You can now rent these at BASE, Ben Lomond Alpine Resort’s base camp at the foothills of Ben Lomond National Park. BASE is the only place you can purchase rental and lift packages so don’t miss out on a bargain!

  2. Goggles, buff and gloves
Don’t have your own? These can be purchased at the retail area in BASE.

  3. Layers of clothing
The best way to stay warm is by layering up rather than having one or two bulky items. Don’t forget good socks!

  4. Waterproof winter gear
Got your ski jacket, ski pants or one piece? No problem if not. You can rent these at BASE once you arrive.

  5. Snow chains
Between June and September all cars in Ben Lomond National Park are required to carry snow chains. In significant snow conditions you may be required to fit them to your wheels. Don’t own your own? You can rent these from BASE enroute to the mountain.
  6. Water
Skiing’s thirsty work. Remember to bring water with you, or stock up on drinks at BASE before you head up the mountain. Make sure you try their organic Lemon Lime Bitters made by Simple!

  7. Snacks
Keep those energy levels up! Pack snacks like nuts, fruit and cereal bars. We now offer a range of takeaway food items at the BASE Cafe, perfect for lunch on the hill. The new day shelter makes the perfect place to sit and refuel.

  8. Parks Pass
Don’t forget to purchase your national parks pass at BASE. The pass is required for all vehicles entering the park and can be purchased at the BASE Ticket Office.

  9. Fuel
Make sure your car has plenty of fuel before setting off. There’s no petrol station for 60km from the resort. That’s double when you factor in getting there and back!

  10. Sunscreen and lip balm
Lucky enough to come on a bluebird day? Don’t end up with skier’s tan! Remember to cream up and keep those lips chap free, safe from the wind.

Remember to check the weather conditions before you set off. Our snow report is updated daily and we have live webcams showing you the current mountain conditions. The weather in the mountains can change quickly, so it’s important to be prepared for anything.
