The Australian snow season has begun, with Ben Lomond Alpine Resort leading the charge!
On Tuesday evening, the mountain’s snow guns roared to life, officially marking the beginning of snowmaking for 2025. Our team worked around the clock, making the most of the favorable conditions and cold temperatures, and we managed to achieve our goal of opening today, Friday 6 June. Ben Lomond Alpine Resort is once again the first ski resort in Australia to open for the season.“We’re used to battling the elements here in Tasmania! Our state-of-the-art snow makers have been a huge game changer in our battle. Last season, conditions were better than we’d seen in years, and that was all thanks to the efforts of our fantastic snow-making team. We’re constantly improving how we use the system, and this year we’re set to go even bigger.” says resort director Ben Mock.
“Snowmaking gives us a head start, but it’s also about giving Tasmanians—and travellers from beyond—a snow season they can rely on.”
Since installing the system, Ben Lomond has extended its season significantly. In 2024, the mountain was the first to open and the last to close in Australia—a feat it hopes to replicate and exceed in 2025. With such success producing snow, Ben Lomond will likely be seeing the arrival of even more snow machines in the not-too-distant future.”
“We’ve seen what these snowmakers can do to prolong our ski season and dramatically improve coverage on the slopes. We’re already planning for additional machines to keep growing the experience. With the continued support of our ski community, we’re hoping to be in a position to increase our investment in snowmaking as soon as possible.”
For the latest updates on snow conditions and opening dates, visitors are encouraged to check the resort’s snow report and social media channels. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a first-time snow-goer, Ben Lomond is poised to offer an unforgettable alpine experience this winter.
