Most roadworthy vehicles are able to drive up Jacobs Ladder. The road is steep and unsealed, but safe when driving at the correct speed for the conditions. The speed limit is 30km.

It takes less than five minutes to drive up Jacobs Ladder when conditions are clear. Please give yourself a little more time if there is snow on the road.
It takes approximately 25 minutes to drive to the bottom of Jacobs Ladder from Ben Lomond Base at the beginning of Ben Lomond Road.
Do I need snow chains to drive Jacobs Ladder?
During winter (Jul-Sep) it is a legal requirement to carry snow chains in your vehicle if driving to the top of the mountain. Fitting the chains is only mandatory when conditions require it. Snow chains can be hired at Ben Lomond Base.
