Snowplay + Toboggan in tasmania
Looking for snow in Tasmania? You found it! From late May until late September, we’ll be making snow at every opportunity to add to the mountain’s natural snowfall. Come toboggan, build snowmen and make snow angels with us.
Ben Lomond is not only Tasmania’s largest single alpine area, it’s also home to Tasmania’s only commercial ski field, complete with state-of-the-art snow machines. Thanks to these snowmakers topping up the mountain’s natural snowfall, Ben Lomond can now offer a reliable snow experience throughout winter.
Whether you’re here to ski, snowboard, toboggan or play in the snow, come join us this winter!
Our expected opening day for 2025 is 6 June (weather permitting) so be sure to check our snow report, live snow cam, or social media (Facebook and Instagram) for the latest conditions.

THE BASE
Begin your day at Ben Lomond Base where you can purchase your compulsory National Parks pass, hire winter clothing and toboggans, and rent some snow chains (its a legal requirement for all vehicles to carry chains June – September if driving to the top of the mountain).
Conveniently located at the corner of Blessington Road and Ben Lomond Road as you turn up the mountain road, the Base is only 30 minutes from Launceston and another 30 mins to the top of the mountain (subject to good road conditions).
Ben Lomond Base is your one-stop shop for everything you need for a day in the snow.
Visit our online shop to check prices and reserve your gear.

TOBOGGAN
After renting your toboggan, winter jacket and snow play boots at Ben Lomond Base, you’re ready to head up the mountain!
Forgot your hat, scarf or gloves? These are available for purchase before you leave The Base too.
Drive for 30 minutes up the mountain, and make sure to follow National Park’s advice on whether to fit snow chains to your tyres that day or not.
Once you arrive at the ski village, enjoy as many toboggan runs as you like in the toboggan area. Prepare to race down the slopes as fast as the snow can take you!
Make sure you have a snowball fight and build a snowman or two while you’re up there!

SEE SNOW
Hunting snow? You found it!
Between late May and late September, Ben Lomond Alpine Resort will be making snow with their state-of-the-art snowmakers at every opportunity (weather dependent).
Like natural snow, our manmade snow consists of nothing more than water and air. Fan guns and snow lances are used to simulate snowfall and crystallise snowflakes. Its just like the real deal.
Before you head up the mountain, you can check the current conditions through our snow report and social media (Facebook and Instagram). You can even have a look at the slope in real time with our live snow cam.

SMORES
Once Jack Frost starts nipping at your toes, head back down to Ben Lomond Base to warm up around the firepit.
Grab a hot chocolate and a smore kit from The Base Cafe and enjoy an afternoon of melty smores around the fire!
Adults can enjoy apres ski with a mulled wine, spiced cider or range of Tasmanian lagers, wines and ciders.
Hungry for more than smores? The Ben Lomond Base Cafe also serves a range of hot and cold food to fill you up after a day in the snow.
